Why have a manicure?
For both men and women, manicures are excellent for maintaining healthy nails, cuticles and skin. Regardless of your profession, people notice other’s hands and the presentation and cleanliness of your hands will be judged. Having your hands and nails groomed by a skilled therapist achieves a clean and professional look that can be difficult attain yourself. The pampering aspect of a manicure allows you to de-stress, relax and enjoy some “me time’. If you are opting for painted nails in your manicure, this can be a fun way to express your personality and experiment with colour and nail art trends.
Your mobile beauty therapist may not always trim your nails; it depends on your current and desired nail length. If your nails are already relatively short, then filing will do just fine. If your nails are very long but you want them short for the manicure, then they will often be cut, then filed to your desired shape.
Nail filing and shaping
Manicurists use nail files to gently take down and shape the edges of the nails. Your manicurist will ask you what nail shape you would prefer, with the standards being round or square. There are many more nail shapes but these are the most common. It’s about aesthetic preferences and if you’re really not sure, just ask the professional what they think will suit your nails best.
Cutting and tidying cuticles
Cuticles are the dry skin surrounding the nail plate, where your nail and finger meet. We at LeSalon, carry out dry manicures; we use a cuticle remover to soften and remove the dead cuticle using a sterilised pusher and cuticle nipper. If you require more cuticle tidying please do not hesitate to let your technician know.
Buff to Shine
In the case of men’s manicures or if you are not having polish, buffing will be the final step of your manicure. Using a nail buffer, your manicurist will polish the nail surface to create a consistent and shiny look.
Painting is done inmultiple steps to attain a glossy and long-lasting result. A clear base coat is applied to your nails to help the polish stick better to your nails. It also creates a protective barrier between your nails and the damaging (staining, peeling and brittleness) effects of nail polish. The next step is to apply two coats of nail polish. One coat of polish often doesn’t give a salon-quality finish to it. And too many coats can get clumpy and messy. Finally, your manicurist will paint on a top coat. This coat acts to seal the coloured polish, which prevents chipping, and also gives your nails that desired glossy appearance.
Painting nails isn’t quite as easy as it looks. It’s all about attention to detail in getting the polish as close to the cuticle as possible without letting it bleed. Plus, it takes a true expert to achieve a smooth, evenly distributed, glossy finish. There’s precision in sealing the edges of the nails with polish to prevent chipping too.

What Are Acrylic Nails?
Acrylic nails are essentially extensions of natural nails that are made of combined liquid and powder. Your natural nail bed is filed down, and this mixture is added on top using a brush for application. This mould is then shaped and filed into the desired nail shape and nail polish will then be applied to smooth surface. The nail polish application is the same as your usual manicure, painting a base coat, colour and then top coat, and dried using a fan.
Acrylic nail services are popular because they last for a long time. They are more resistant to breaks than natural nails and longer lasting than gel nails. Additionally, a
crylic nails have been around for a long time, so nail technicians are familiar with applying and removing these nails. Because of this, you won’t have to worry about incorrect application.
Numerous Design Options
Acrylic nails can either cover the entire nail or be used as an extension at the end of the nails. This gives you the option of having just a French tip manicure using most of your natural nail, or you can choose from endless designs that can be polished on the nail. Once you tire of the current design, you can simply remove the nails and have new nails applied with a different design.
Depending on how you choose to paint the nails, acrylic nails can look like your real nails. This is especially true if you have a nail technician with a lot of experience who is able to more closely mimic the look of natural nails.
Prevent Nail Biting
Sometimes the only way to prevent nail biting is to cover up the nail itself. Most women who struggle with nail biting will have no problem biting acrylic nails since they are much more durable and hard to chew or bite in the first place.
Protect Weak Nails
Acrylic nails can also help women who naturally have unhealthy nails that chip or break easily. This helps prevent painful breaks and allows you to do things that you might not otherwise be able to without fear of breaking your nails.
Ways To Make Acrylic Nails Last Longer
When you get a set of acrylic nails done, you naturally want them to last as long as possible--but only if they will look good. Needing a fill-in just a week after you have had your nails done can be a bit irritating. The method used to apply your acrylic nails can definitely affect how long they will last. For example, if your nail technician places too much acrylic on the nails, it can cause the formula to clump up and form a weak bond to your nail bed, resulting in acrylic nails that may pop off easily.

Traditional nail polish was originally formulated from the recipe for car paint. Charles Revson, his brother Joseph, and chemist Charles Lachman, used a formulation from the auto industry to bring Revlon nail enamel to the masses in 1932. Almost all modern nail polish is formulated with some combination of nitrocellulose and solvents like butyl acetate or ethyl acetate, among others. The solvents evaporate as the polish dries, and the nitrocellulose forms a shiny film. With plasticizers, pigments, UV filters, and other ingredients for color or to create a shimmer or glitter effect, nail polish is a complex chemical formulation that must be kept sealed and in a stable environment. (We donât recommend keeping nail polish in the car or in the fridge, for obvious reasons.) Examples: OPI, Essie, butter LONDON, Revlon, CND Creative Play, pretty much any traditional nail polish you can think of.
A nail enhancement is any material that can add length or strength to the natural nail. There are several options for nail enhancements, but for our purposes, weâll break them down into four categories. Liquid and Powder, Hard and Soft Gels, Fiberglass/Resin Wraps, and Dip Systems. To understand these categories, we need to remember our friends from earlier, the acrylate polymers. Almost every enhancement system we mentioned uses some form of an acrylate polymer to form a nail coating or extension. They are applied differently, have different features and benefits, and are used for different client indications.
Please note that no enhancement system or product âruins your nails.â Every system for applying nail enhancements described below include products that are approved and formulated specifically for application to the natural nail. No enhancement product inherently damages the nail. Nail enhancements, when applied and maintained correctly, are completely safe and non-damaging. It is when the product is improperly applied, cared for, or removed, that it can cause everything from minor nail plate damage to severe chemical and allergic reactions to loss of the nail entirely. That is why the information in this post is so important to read, understand, and heed. Nail products are rarely to blame for nail damage â it is almost always the fault of improper application, removal, or improper or lack of home care.
Liquid and powder enhancements are arguably the enhancement type that most nail clients are familiar with. Often referred to as acrylic nails, fake nails, Solar nails (which is a long discontinued brand of CND liquid and powder), porcelain nails, and false nails, liquid and powder enhancements are applied with a brush dipped in a sometimes strong-smelling liquid monomer and then a powder, and shaped onto the nail. Liquid and powder enhancements cure without a light, and once hardened and cured, are quite strong. Powders can be clear, white, pink, or a myriad of different colors. Additive drops can be added to the monomer liquid to change the color and achieve stained glass-like results. Liquid and powder is an ideal medium for embedding materials such as glitter, dried flowers, stone chips, etc. It is durable and perfect for long enhancements or overlays of the natural nail.

A manicure is a beauty treatment of the hands. Your nails will be cut, filed, and shaped. You will then have your cuticles pushed back and tidied, and then enjoy a hand massage. The final step will be the painting of the nails with a colour of your choice. It can be tempting to skip the salon and try a DIY mani, but we’d say leave it to the pros. A perfect polish is a skill that takes years, and hundreds of painted nails to perfect – it’s all about attention to detail in getting the polish as close to the cuticle as possible. Plus, a smooth, evenly distributed, glossy finish is much harder to achieve than it looks.
A pedicure is a spa treatment to clean, trim, buff, scrub, sometimes paint, and just-plain pamper your toenails. Scroll down for answers to any additional questions you may have about pedicures, from prices and nail-salon etiquette to the types of pedicures available.

4. Artificial nails
Artificial nails, also known as fake nails, false nails, acrylic nails, nail extensions or nail enhancements, are extensions placed over fingernails as fashion accessories. Many artificial nail designs attempt to mimic the appearance of real fingernails as closely as possible, while others may deliberately stray in favor of an artistic look. Artificial nails require regular upkeep; it is recommended that they are attended to, on average, every two weeks, however they may last over one month.
Nonetheless, their versatility in terms of shape, size, design and comparatively high durability are some advantages they hold over other types of manicures. Atop these, either acrylic, hard gel, or any combination of both may be applied. Tips are available in many different designs, ranging from solid colors like gel or regular nail polish to graphic designs such as animal prints and metallic colors. Artificial nails can be shaped, cut, and filed into a variety of shapes, including square, squared oval/"squoval", rounded, almond, ballerina/coffin, mountain peak, lipstick, and stiletto.
5. Polish change
Polish change is simply nailed color change done on the hands and feet while a full pedicure involves full treatment of the feet where the excess overgrown cuticle skin that surrounds the toenails are gotten rid of, all the dead thick callused skin is taken off the bottom of the feet, the nails are buffed, cut and field into perfection, the feet are massaged with cream and then the toenails are polished. Polish change is a mini manicure and pedicure offered by almost all spas and nail salons, it has to do with the removal of the old polish and the application of a new one.
This service is quite affordable and when you're trying to minimize cost, save money or simply too busy to make an extra stop at salon, polish change is a dry quick way to fix up your nails. It's doesn't take more than ten minutes, unlike pedicure that takes about an hour to fix.
6. Nail art
Nail art is a creative way to paint, decorate, enhance, and embellish nails. It is a type of artwork that can be done on fingernails and toenails, usually after manicures or pedicures. Manicures and pedicures are beauty treatments that trim, shape, and polish the nails. Often, these procedures remove the cuticles and soften the skin around the nails. Types of manicures can vary from polish on natural nails to dipping powder and acrylic nails.
7. Cluster lashes
Cluster lashes are little sections of a strip lash or a group of lashes that are glued together in a cluster with a thick base. These can give you more of a natural look compared to strip lashes but are still very heavy to the eyes. These also should not be worn for more than a day and should not be slept in.
Waxing is the process of hair removal from the root by using a covering of a sticky substance, such as wax, to adhere to body hair, and then removing this covering and pulling out the hair from the follicle.

Increase blood circulation
During any manicure or pedicure, you receive a relaxing massage of the hands and feet. This helps to improve blood circulation and improves mobility of the joints along with reducing swelling of the lower extremities.
Improve the health of your nails
With regular manicures and pedicures, the chances of your nails developing fungi and other infections are reduced. Our hands are exposed to a lot of elements and products on a daily basis. It’s a good idea to have a deep cleaning so the dead skin cells on your hands can be removed, encouraging new cell growth and leaving your nails healthier and stronger.
We all know that body massages are a great way to relax and rejuvenate your muscles and nerves, but research has shown that as little as 5 minutes of a hand and foot massage is all it takes to relieve stress considerably. Manicures and pedicures are a great way to relax while improving the look and feel of your hands and feet. If you’re feeling stressed, some of us tend to pick at our cuticles, leaving them dry, cracked and bleeding. Plus, having great looking nails can always help to put a smile on your face, making stress levels decrease. Manicures and pedicures reduce stress and boost your sense of well-being both directly and indirectly. There is a physical component to them because the practitioners gently touch and scrub the feet and hands. It isn’t as vigorous as a deep tissue massage, but it is sufficient enough to release your feel-good neurotransmitters/hormones (ie. oxytocin, dopamine, serotonin). These are the brain and body chemicals that promote feelings of wellness and calm.
Keeps hands and feet smooth and soft
With summer almost here your hands and feet will be prone to sunburn. chlorine, and concrete. Regular treatments will keep them protected from the harshness of summer. Schedule regular manicures and pedicures to help keep your skin and nails smooth and soft as winter goes nowhere for quite some time. Dryness and cracked skin can possibly lead to painful sores and potential scars. We are always here to help!
As we mentioned above, some of you are no doubt familiar with the effects of a colder climate and what it does to your fingers and toes. Unfortunately, the effects – which can include dryness, peeling, and cracking – are often chronic.
Protects Against the Effects of Winter
They can be persistent ailments, especially near fingers and toes already prone to poor circulation. A manicure and pedicure can restore your skin’s vibrancy due to its exfoliating and moisturizing effects. This will no doubt be a welcome benefit for those of you who are prone to dry skin and other cutaneous nuisances.
